Nowadays, social awareness and environmental conservation efforts can take many different forms, from small-scale volunteering to hefty crowdfunded donations.

But one of the most exciting initiatives organized for raising awareness on women’s empowerment and gender equality is Tanzania’s annual Serengeti Girls Run.
It’s an awe-inspiring six-day event co-sponsored by Singita, Grumeti Fund, and
Safarigo, first established four years ago and now running for its fourth consecutive year.

Taking inspirational women throughout the iconic wilderness of the Serengeti, the Serengeti Girls Run consists of six days of activities, including a three-day 63k run across the wild beauty and rich wildlife of the region, and it is aimed at raising funds for
Grumeti Fund’s empowerment initiatives for young girls living in the area.

The incredible women participating in this scenic run will not only help the conservation charity continue to deliver its empowerment programs but will also provide them with a truly unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience while visiting

Why attend the Serengeti Girls Run?

So, before we dive into the unforgettable itinerary for Serengeti Girls Run 2021, let’s take a closer look at the mission behind the initiative and why this run makes for one of the best things to do in Tanzania later this year.

The Serengeti run is the brainchild of Singita, a conservation and ecotourism brand specializing in making African safaris more eco-friendly and purposeful, and Grumeti Fund, an environmental non-profit looking to protect the Serengeti ecosystem.

The goal of this joint venture has always been to help promote women’s empowerment among the rural populations of the Serengeti region, using the revenue from the run as funding for their projects.

So, what community projects will you be supporting when signing up for the run?

Your contribution will help fund the following empowerement initiatives for girls:

•   Scholarships for 80 local girls in secondary school, vocational studies and university

•   Empowerment events for 5,000 high school girls

•   One year worth of pads for 5,000 high school girls so that they can attend school with dignity and pride

•   Mentorship program

•   Life skills training

On top of supporting these incredible initiatives, visitors who choose to make the Serengeti Girls Run part of their Tanzania trip will get the chance to discover the Serengeti through new lenses, running across the untouched ecosystem and authentic wilderness of this private concession of western Serengeti.

Covid-19 in Tanzania and safety concerns

Despite a few reasonable setbacks along the way, the 2020 Serengeti Girls Run has managed to go ahead as planned, with the fourteen women participating getting to enjoy the event in complete safety and making the most out of what has turned out to be one of the most meaningful and memorable times of their lives.

In 2021, travel restrictions are expected to continue easing across the world, but you should always stay informed and keep an eye on the latest developments surrounding
Covid-19 and travel restrictions.

While being able to run freely across the reservation and observing the majestic wild animals in close proximity is a big part of what makes this experience so magical, participants will be able to run safe and sound while being escorted by experienced anti-poaching game scouts.

Experience the Serengeti in 2021

As one of the most unique and purpose-led things to do in Tanzania, the Serengeti Girls Run only allows for very limited spaces, so we recommend all women who wish to participate this year to book their spot as soon as possible.

You can learn more about the details of the run, prices, and itinerary on
Singita’s official website and ask the staff for any questions you might have.

Alternatively, you can email or for inquiries and bookings and reach out to for more information on Grumeti Fund’s conservation and fundraising efforts.
