Important information
Packing Essentials
Clothing: Light, breathable clothing for the daytime (neutral colors like beige, khaki, and olive) and warm layers for chilly evenings and early mornings.
Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes or sandals for safaris.
Rain Gear: A light rain jacket or poncho (especially during the rainy season, March to May).
Sunscreen & Hat: The sun can be strong, so bring sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from UV rays.
Binoculars & Camera: Don't forget binoculars for animal viewing and a camera to capture your adventure!
Safari Vehicle Equipment
The safari vehicle is a 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof for better wildlife viewing and photography.
The vehicle is equipped with a fridge for keeping your drinks cool, charging ports, and a first-aid kit.
If you are a photography enthusiast, bring a good camera with a zoom lens for capturing wildlife from a distance.
Health & Safety
Vaccinations: Ensure you are up to date on vaccinations recommended for travel in Tanzania (e.g., Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Malaria).
Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, cancellations, and lost luggage.
Malaria Prophylaxis: Consult your doctor for advice on malaria prophylaxis as the safari regions are considered high-risk for malaria.
Water: Always drink bottled water. Avoid tap water during your trip.
Emergency Support: In case of emergency, we provide 24/7 support. Your guide is well-trained in first aid, and the vehicle is equipped with a first aid kit.
Accommodation & Meals
Accommodation: The accommodations are full board (including breakfast, lunch, and dinner). The camp and lodge facilities are comfortable with hot showers and cozy rooms/tents for relaxation.
Meals: We provide a variety of freshly prepared meals; if you have specific dietary restrictions or preferences, let us know in advance.
Cash & Currency
Tanzania’s currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). You can exchange currency in Arusha or at the airport.
It’s advisable to carry some cash for tipping, souvenirs, or small purchases. Credit cards are accepted at some hotels but not always in remote areas.
Tipping
Tipping is customary and appreciated in Tanzania. It’s recommended to tip your safari guide $20 to $30 per day for their exceptional service.
If you visit a Maasai village, a tip of $10 to $15 per person is appropriate for the villagers.
Photography & Wildlife Etiquette
Respect the Wildlife: Keep a safe distance from animals. Do not provoke or disturb them.
Photography Etiquette: Always ask permission before taking photos of people in villages. For wildlife, use zoom lenses and avoid loud noises that may scare animals.
Drones: Drones are not allowed in national parks without special permits, and their use is heavily regulated in Tanzania.
Climate and Weather
The weather can vary depending on the time of year. During the dry season (June to October), expect warm days and cooler evenings. The rainy season (November to April) can bring showers, but safaris are still possible.
Altitude: Ngorongoro Crater is at high elevation (about 2,000 meters/6,561 feet), so bring a light jacket for the cool mornings.
Respect Local Customs & Culture
Tanzania is a culturally rich country, and the Maasai people welcome respectful visitors. Please follow local customs and dress modestly, especially in rural areas.
In villages, please ask permission before taking photos of people, as some might prefer not to be photographed.
Travel Documents
Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from your planned arrival date.
Visa: Most nationalities require a visa to enter Tanzania. You can obtain a visa online or at the airport on arrival.
Ensure your visa and any necessary paperwork are ready before the start of your safari.
Travel Timing
Best Time to Visit: The dry season (June to October) is perfect for game viewing as animals gather around waterholes. However, if you’re interested in seeing the Great Migration, visit from December to March.
