Airport Information.
Fly to Zanzibar Airport for proximity to Arusha. If flying into Zanzibar, expect a Shoter immigration process (40-50 mins).
Arrival & Accommodation
A Full Package Adventures representative will meet you at the Lodge or Hotel and transfer you to the Airport for your Flight to Serengeti. Your first night’s stay is typically Lunch and Dinner
Flight Information
Arrive at least one day before your safari begins. Return flights can be booked for the late afternoon/evening of your safari's final day. Confirm timing with your safari consultant.
Passports & Visas
Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your trip and has 3 clear pages. Most visitors need a visa (USD 50), which can be obtained online or upon arrival. If applying online, do so 15 days in advance.
Mandatory Zanzibar Travel Insurance
As of October 1, 2024, Zanzibar requires travelers to buy mandatory insurance (USD 44). Infants are free, and children get a 50% discount. Coverage includes health, emergency evacuation, and lost baggage.
Vaccinations & Health
Consult your doctor at least 3 months before your trip. Recommended vaccinations include COVID-19, Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Yellow Fever (if applicable), and Malaria prevention.
COVID-19 Entry Requirements
Fully vaccinated travelers are advised, though not required, to show proof. Temperature checks may be conducted on arrival.
Travel Insurance
Ensure your travel insurance includes medical coverage, emergency evacuation, and repatriation. Leave a copy with a friend or relative.
Money
The local currency is Tanzanian Shillings, but US Dollars (2007 or newer) are widely accepted. ATMs are available in major areas, and credit cards (especially Visa) are widely accepted.
Tipping
Guides typically receive USD 15-20 per person per day, given their long hours. Accommodations may also have a tip box for staff. Tipping in local currency or USD is acceptable.
Weather
Expect hot days and cool nights. Pack layers for safari, avoid bright or dark colors, and wear modest clothing to respect local customs.
Clothing & Shoes
Pack for variable weather and sun protection. Wear mid-tone colors, comfortable shoes (trainers, sandals), and bring a waterproof coat. Modesty is key, especially with shorts or low-cut tops.
Sun Protection
Bring sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and lip balm to protect against the strong African sun.
First Aid
Suggested items include antiseptic ointment, painkillers, antihistamine, insect repellent (with DEET), and rehydration sachets.
Photography & Electrical Equipment
Protect your camera and bring spare batteries and memory cards. Binoculars are essential for wildlife viewing. Be mindful of photography rules and avoid military or sensitive sites.
Electrical Charging & Wi-Fi
Safari vehicles have charging points. Lodges may offer Wi-Fi, though signals can be weak. Bring the appropriate plug adapter (Type G).
Phones & SIM Cards
SIM cards are available in Arusha and can be used during your safari. Ensure your phone is unlocked and consult your safari consultant for details.
Security
Exercise caution against petty crime. Use a money belt, avoid flashy jewelry, and prefer taxis at night. Safeguard valuables by using room safes.
Wild Animals at Tented Camps
Wild animals, including zebras and lions, may roam campgrounds. Guards patrol day and night. Always zip your tent when not in use and avoid moving around the camp after dark without an escort.
Responsible Travel
Learn local customs and languages, avoid plastic bags, and respect wildlife. Purchase locally made goods and support the local economy. Don’t waste water, and be mindful of cultural sensitivities. Always ask before photographing people or cultural practices.
