5-Day Marangu Route - Kilimanjaro Climbing

The Marangu Route, famously known as the “Coca-Cola” route is the oldest established route to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is often billed as one of the easiest walking route, though according to KINAPA it suffers the lowest success rate of 42%, as too many climbers with poor acclimatization and inexperience on mountaineering try to do it in only 5 days. Approaching Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast, the Marangu route uses the same ascent and descent route, which means it is less scenic than other routes. Therefore, the experienced and already acclimatized mountaineers may do it for 5 days, but, it is highly recommended to 6-day hike with an effective extra day’s acclimatization for those who have not trekked much at high altitudes. Then Marangu is the only Mount Kilimanjaro route that offers dormitory-style hut accommodation. The huts have a communal dinning room, simple washrooms and toilets, sharing with lots of other climbers in the open dormitory accommodation. Due to that huts accommodation Marangu route is one of the best route to attempt on Mount Kilimanjaro during the rainy season.
