Important information
This 06 day Best Of Tanzania Safari package is private and can be booked by any number of travellers. This trip is suitable for couples, families or groups of friends.
Tour Price
We are aware that some companies offer lower prices than Katikati Tours and Safaris. The nature of safaris can be quite adventurous and Katikati Safaris' first priority at all times is your safety. This requires significant financial investment, including our staff and vehicle fleet. Katikati Tours and Safaris is a local tour operator. If you find a safari that is significantly cheaper than others, something (or someone!) is undoubtedly being compromised.
Also, Katikati Safaris only offers private safaris. Although this is a slightly more expensive option, there are many advantages. In consultation with your guide, you can have more control over your safari e.g. daily departure times, focus of your game drive etc. You will also have more space in the safari vehicle and better viewing opportunities, and with your driver guide you will explore the parks as if you own part of them.
Accommodation:
We have made suggestions for accommodation but this is very flexible. Some of our clients prefer to stay in a variety of accommodation, both in terms of price and type (lodges and tented camps).
We are happy to amend the quote based on your preferences and can suggest alternative accommodation with prices. We can offer Mid-Range, Luxury, Luxury+ or any combination of these. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you would like to change or upgrade your accommodation.
We will then advise you on how/what is possible, taking into account time, budget and preferences.
Payment terms and conditions:
We require a 15% deposit to secure your booking. The balance is due 2 weeks before departure or in cash at our office in Arusha. Payment can be made by bank transfer or credit/debit card (an additional 3.9% fee applies).
Cancellation policy:
90 days and more 20% of the tour price
89 - 60 days 30% of tour price
59 - 30 days 40% of tour price
29 - 15 days 70% of tour price
14 - 0 days 100% of tour price
COVID-19. As Tanzania no longer requires a negative PCR test for entry (unless you are not fully vaccinated), we are unable to offer any flexibility with these conditions.
What to pack for this trip;
Luggage
If possible, you should bring a duffel bag or soft-sided bag. These are easier to carry and pack into the safari vehicle. Ideally the fabric should be sturdy and waterproof and the bag should be lockable. Put anything of value in a separate daypack, such as a rucksack. Anything of real sentimental or monetary value should ideally be left at home.
Clothing
Pack for hot days and cool nights. Tanzania can be hot and dusty during the day, but often cool and crisp at night. Layers are ideal for safari days. Pack clothing that will keep you cool but protect you from the sun and biting insects. Choose mid-tone colours and avoid white or bright colours that can distract animals and dark colours such as black and blue that can attract tsetse flies. The best colours are the safari classics: olive, green and khaki. For evenings at the lodges, you can stay in your casual clothes, as even the luxury lodges do not expect you to wear smart clothes out in the bush. Check the temperature before you go to make sure you have clothing that is warm enough for the season. It is always a good idea to bring a waterproof coat, whatever the season.
Tanzania is a fairly conservative culture, so please avoid wearing 'short' shorts or low-cut tops. These can attract unwanted attention and sometimes cause offence.
Shoes
As you want to be careful not to overpack, you need to think carefully about what shoes to bring. Unless you are on a safari that involves a lot of walking, trainers and a pair of sports sandals will do (sandals are also good for walking around camp at night). You can also take flip-flops for the showers.
Sun protection
The African sun can be brutal, so make sure you bring a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes. You'll also need a hat that shades your face and covers your ears and neck for maximum protection. And of course, take plenty of high-protection sunscreen and lip balm.
First aid. This is a suggested list of first aid supplies:
- Antiseptic ointment
- Antihistamine cream and tablets
- Nurofen or equivalent painkiller
- Eye drops
- Anti-diarrhoea treatment
- A few bandages
- Medication for personal allergies/asthma etc.
- Insect repellent containing Deet or Picaridin
- Rehydration sachets/vitamin tablets
- Assorted plasters
Photographic and electrical equipment
We recommend you bring
- Strong bag/carry case to protect the camera - zip lock/plastic bags are useful for dusty conditions
- Spare/extra batteries
- Memory/storage media (2 x memory cards in case one gets damaged)
- Binoculars. These will be essential for wildlife viewing.
Photography Etiquette
It is forbidden to take photographs of anything military in Tanzania. Bridges, border posts and airports are also sensitive, so be careful or be prepared to have your film/camera confiscated. Please be discreet and respectful when photographing people - it is always better to ask before you snap away!
Electric Charging & Power
All our safari vehicles have power/charging points. Please bring travel adapters to ensure they are suitable for your equipment. Most accommodations use sockets as shown below (Type G)
