Founders and CEO The local Tour Guide & Operator in Tanzania, born and raised on the slope of our Majestic Mount Kilimanjaro at 1400m. Being a Senior Guide & Managing Director at Twende Africa Tours Company, is a dream come true for him. Since he was a young boy, he always wanted to guide travelers to the Roof of Africa. He was a porter on Mt Kilimanjaro for more than 6 years before keeping some money and go back to College and trained to be a qualified tour guide. After working to other companies for 10 years, he decided to get into the field and run safaris and trekking tours by himself. In 2014, Twende Africa Tours was found with his comrade porters all from brotherhood. Our dream was to provide ordinary people with the life-changing opportunity to climb the Majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. By booking to us you support the life of local communities directly; we will take you there not to send you there!

Sales Personnel & Yoga Teacher Born in Basque, near the Pyreneous mountains, his father shared his passion about mountains and trekking to Naiara since very young. Nowadays, she is dance teacher in Paris. In November 2018, her dream became true: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m, Tanzania) as a solo traveler, she met Peter, the experimented Kilimanjaro trek guide. Worried about her asthma problems and running out of breath, she is more and more interested about Yoga and its benefits and she studies Vyniasa Yoga. Sure and truly, yoga practice has contributed to the climbing of Mount Kilimanjaro, she proposed to his guide to make new concept: Combining Yoga with Trek on Kilimanjaro and relaxation in Zanzibar beaches. This is why now at Twende Africa Tours and Safaris we have Combined Kilimanjaro Packages and Relaxation in Zanzibar beach with Yoga Practices.

Mountain Guide Growing up in Singida, Rashid heard stories and read in books about the highest mountain in Africa as a young boy. When he saw the majestic Mt Kilimanjaro with his own eyes for the first time, there was no stopping him: starting out as porter, he quickly moved on to become a qualified trekking guide, taking travelers to the Roof of Africa. Since 2012 he shares his passion for climbing Mt Kilimanjaro with his guests; since 2012, he shares it as part of our team. AS the family man that he is with two children, Rashid makes sure to pack warm socks for the cold summit night. Rashid has climbed Mt Kilimanjaro more than 100 times.

Safari Guide While Joseph has been guiding travelers through Tanzania’s national parks since 2012 and lost count of how many safaris he’s been on, he still gets excited every single time one of his guests experiences their first wildlife sighting. Sharing in their joy is what makes guiding such a rewarding job for him. His guests come from all walks of life and Joseph gives his all to offer new insights into local wildlife and nature – even if you are a safari or conservation expert yourself. Apart from English, Joseph also speaks German, and even with an American accent he acquired over time. If Joseph can choose the route, he will take you to Tarangire National Park during the dry season, to look for the rare African Wild Dog, one of his favourite animals. With local knowledge on the history, culture, nature and wildlife, Joseph knows the best places to visit while in Tanzania.

Mountain Guide Guiding travellers from around the world to Uhuru Peak since the year 2012, Simon has invaluable mountaineering experience. He has been part of the Twende Africa Tours team since day one in 2014. Looking back, he still remembers his first cold summit night and his exhaustion looking at the distant stars sparkling in the night sky. When the warm sun began to raise, Simon regained his strength and made it to the top. He is very experienced in assessing when it is time to encourage you to keep going and when it is necessary to call off a climb and get you downhill to safety. As Head Guide, he is aware of the responsibility he has not only for you, but for every assistant guide, porter and waiter on his team. At home, he enjoys spending time with his family and his little baby. Simon has climbed Mt Kilimanjaro more than 120 times.

Head Chef One of the most mind-boggling achievements on a Tanzanian trekking expedition is the production of tasty hot meals in the very challenging conditions of a Mount Kilimanjaro high-altitude climb Our chefs are professionally trained to prepare tasty and nutritious food on the mountain. They often work in harsh conditions – in howling winds or ice rain using only gas stoves in a kitchen tent or a small hut. They can conjure up substantial cooked breakfasts and delicious and hearty 3-course dinners with warm soups prepared with fresh vegetables, a mouth-watering main course such as pasta with a rich meat sauce and vegetables or pancakes followed by a dessert or a plate of fruits for something sweet. They get up when it is still dark in the mornings to boil drinking water for the day’s hike and go to sleep after every guest and porter has been fed. Our chefs can also cater for vegetarians, vegan or climbers with food allergies or intolerances or any other special dietary requirements such as Halal and Kosher, by prior arrangement. There are 8 cooks permanently working with our company and they all receive regular training in new techniques and recipes.
