How much should I budget for a safari?

The wife would love to go on a safari next summer. How much should we budget for a reasonable experience? We will have 5 people: 2 parents and 3 teenagers. We don't look for luxury but do want to be comfortable and safe. I'd want a guided experience in Africa rather than DIY. How many days should I budget for?
