A very practical question about tipping
We arrive in Botswana in January and will have 1 night in Maun before heading off on 12 consecutive nights at FIFO lodges. We will be three people and I am working on approx $10 USD per day for guide and $10 USD for back of house staff per guest. So over 12 nights that makes $720 USD which equals around 10,000 BWP. I would prefer to give cash tips in local currency, but we can't access Pula in Australia. So we will have to withdraw money from an ATM. I remember there being some issues with ATM limits last time I was there. I'm really not keen on paying currency conversion fees to take USD (or pound or Euro), and I don't think it's fair to pay people in Botswana in Australian dollars! Is there any chance that we will be able to withdraw 10,000 BWP from the ATM's near the airport and how can we manage to get this in small enough denominations to divide up between staff?
